Our Solent Yachtmaster Prep course is designed to get you used to the boat and to help you with navigational and practical sailing skills, with which you might be a bit rusty. There is no point stepping on board to do this course if you are having trouble working out a course to steer or secondary Port tidal calculation.
Courses run Monday to Friday every week. **
Yachtmaster prep starts at 0900 on Monday and finish at approx 1600 on the final day.
Exam: Each candidate will be assessed for their Skippering Skills, boat handling, general seamanship, navigation, safety awareness, knowledge of the IRPCS, Meteorology and Signals.
General: The previous experience required as Skipper, in order to do the RYA Yachtmaster assessment really is the bare minimum and whilst some candidates are exceptional and can pass with as little as 5 days experience as Skipper the majority are not quite ready.
If during the Yachtmaster preparation course we feel that you are not ready for the exam we will tell you, at which point you can choose not to go ahead or to do the Coastal Yachmaster Exam. Should you decide not to go ahead you will not need to pay the Exam fee and can spend the rest of the week practising sailing Skills.
If you would like to do the RYA Yachtmaster course but feel that you need to do an extra week then please call and discuss it with us.
